 EvergraceFor a 3rd person action adventure there s not much in the way of movement, no jumping and no climbing, though it s quite easy to fall off ledges. There s plenty of fighting though, and you can calibrate the strength of your attacks with the force with which you tap the analog attack button. Battles are uninspiring, just a matter of sticking and moving, which would be a lot more fun if the camera was consistent and you had an auto-aim/lock option. Even worse, random monsters literally appear out of thin air, sometimes compromising an escape path or room to maneuver where one existed a moment ago. There are two basic attack options: your main weapon and a secondary special ability. Juggling between different special abilities is more trouble than it should be, since they re linked to a specific piece of equipment, and you can only assign one at a time. Maintaining the condition of your armor and weapons is also a burden; it s mandatory to visit the shop (conveniently located at every save point) annoying frequency. Almost every element of Evergrace reeks of mediocrity. It s never truly engaging for more than a few minutes and doesn t pack enough variety between its two characters to hold interest beyond that.
